We explore how people and technology interact in different environments and organizations – and what this means for the design of technological solutions and ways of working.

We focus on understanding how people interact with and are affected by their surroundings. These environments range from technical products and systems to the physical space and relationships with other people. We use our knowledge to create settings and products that are accessible, inclusive, and adapted to different needs – whether in workplaces, homes, or other contexts where people spend time.

By taking a universal design approach, we make design accessible to all, helping to increase inclusion and promote diversity. Our goal is that people's interaction with their environment should strengthen health, well-being, performance and long-term sustainability.

Our division is based on LTH's vision “Together we explore and create – to benefit the world", with a focus on:

  • understanding, communicating, and improving conditions for people and environments, together with those affected
  • conducting research and education that promotes sustainability in both work and everyday life
  • creating healthier and more sustainable communities, particularly in relation to people, risk, and safety
  • placing people at the center of our research and education

On January 1, 2024, Certec (with research in rehabilitation technology and design), merged with the Division of Ergonomics and Aerosol Technology.
